Stand Alone RolePlay Guide

What is a Semi-Realistic RolePlay? There is a large variety in the types of RolePlays, or RP’s, that one can participate in. The realism of each individual RP varies, some are very strict and realistic to the real world, while others are much more fantastical and unrealistic. An example of this is a role play with strict rules, such as a horse RP with communication only through body language and such with no speech vs a RP with winged wolves that control the elements with their sci-fi tech devices. From extreme to extreme, we lie somewhere in the middle, with our RP being semi-realistic. There are no space ships, no winged wolves, but the characters in our RP can communicate much like humans, through speech. Basic canine body language is a must, though, as it helps to add to the realism of your character so that, even though they speak, they also communicate in a way that makes them distinctly canine and not humans in canine bodies. Canines, as well, cannot cry in the way we do, but having your character sob is fine. Just no tears, unless your character has something in their eye! As well, canines can’t really blush for communication, so that is not really possible, either. But feel free to have them act embarrassed or smitten, just don’t have them blush.
If you’re ever not sure what is realistic and what isn’t, feel free to ask! Sometimes there are grey areas that are hard to decide upon and that is when we can step in to help you out.
What types of characters are allowed?
Character body type and color wise, have yours be realistic. Research the dog and canine breeds your character is and make sure the size, height, markings, body type, etc, are realistic. No 300 lb chihuahua dobermans with poptart bodies! And no boxer mixes with zebra stripes or giraffe markings.
Creating a new character and getting it started in a new RP is like getting a new puppy. Except, the puppy is your creation and you are in control of it. Are you going to be the careful leader with your character, slowly shaping him or her into the best she or he can be? Or the sadistic Sims-esque controller, making your character wonder ‘why me’? That is up to you!
Once you have the idea of your character, it’s time to make their bio. The history might be a good place to start, but everyone has their own approach. Why is your character the way they are? Where do their personality traits and quirks originate? What tragic back stories do they have; are they classic Disney orphans or are their parents alive and well? Then, what does your character look like? Go through the bio, answering these important questions and flesh out your character. Revise and edit. Then it is time to continue the story in the real RP! The most important thing is that your character, over time, should change. They should learn and progress, much like creatures do in real life.
